Rossini was a prominent composer of music during his life. His fame surpassed all composers of his day. He wrote much oratorio, opera, and chamber music, including the famous operas Guillaume Tell and Il barbiere di Siviglia . His operas are still extremely popular today. Most of his works are a cornerstone in vocal repertoire known and loved by all singers.
Why did you choose this person? How does he relate to your life?
I chose Rossini because he is so prominent in music. As a vocalist I will be dealing with his works for many, many years and I will undoubtedly become very familiar with much of his history. Rossini's operas are in an important time period of music when it was just starting to develop the music as we know today.
If he had never existed, would the world be different as we know it now?
If Rossini had never existed the realm of music would be very different. Not necessarily the entire world. Music would be very different without the influence of Rossini in the Romantic period.
If you could meet this person, what would you ask him?
If I could meet Rossini I would ask him how he composed such beautiful music. His songs have so much emotion and feeling that I would want to know how he could hear it before putting it down on paper. Rossini had so much talent and I would love to know what when through his mind when he was composing
Do you think the fact that this person was Italian played a role in his achievement?
I do think that it played a big role. Italy was known for its music such as opera houses and performance opportunities. Italy was the place to go for opera and so Rossini was able to thrive in an environment where he could use his talents to succeed.
